Unlike many boutique ligatures that are overly delicate, finicky, or prone to slipping, the Burnin’ Ligature was built with a different goal: to give players world-class response and tone in a design that is secure, reliable, and easy to use every day.

Its open-frame geometry reduces dampening and allows the reed and mouthpiece to resonate naturally, producing a lively, full-bodied sound that is balanced and expressive. With its classic double-screw system and sculpted ergonomic paddles, players can precisely adjust front-to-back pressure, tailoring the feel and response exactly to their liking.

Elegant, durable, and extremely player-friendly, this is the ligature that finally bridges the gap between boutique performance and real-world practicality.

Designed by Peter Jessen

The artistry of a genuine saxophone wizard is now accessible to more players with the Burnin’ Ligature. Previously, Peter’s exceptional ligature designs were reserved only for a handful of professional saxophonists. They combine acoustically efficient engineering with a clean, modern aesthetic.

Developed With Real-World Player Input

Over the course of nearly two years, the Burnin’ Ligature was play-tested by professional saxophonists across the US and Europe. Their feedback helped validate the ligature’s exceptional responsiveness, balanced tone, and stable, reliable performance on a wide range of mouthpieces.

0.7 mm Gold-Plated Brass

Significantly thicker than standard ligatures, this design offers superior stability, leading to enhanced richness, resonance, and long-term durability, all without adding excessive weight.

Open-Frame Geometry for Maximum Vibration

Minimal contact with the mouthpiece frees the mouthpiece/reed combination to vibrate more fully, improving projection, clarity, and tonal presence across all registers.

Classic Double-Screw Control

Fine-tune your setup by adjusting front-to-back reed pressure. Add warmth with more upper-screw tension, or increase brightness and edge with more lower-screw tension.

Fast, Clean Response

Players consistently report instantly improved articulation and ease of playing when switching to the Burnin’ Ligature.

Balanced, Full-Bodied Tone

Not overly bright. Not overly dark. A rich, centered tone with excellent focus and resonance suitable for jazz, classical, pop, and contemporary styles.

Secure, Stable, and Reliable

The ligature hugs the mouthpiece securely, stays put during tuning, and resists slipping, a common frustration with other premium ligatures.

Ergonomic Screw Paddles

Sculpted, comfortable paddles make tension adjustments smooth and precise.

Refined 24k Gold-Plated Finish

The genuine 24k gold-plated brass provides a warm, premium finish and enhances long-term durability while complementing the ligature’s rich, resonant tonal characteristics.

I received my Better Sax Burnin Alto Sax ligature a few days ago. It fits both my Riffault Alto mpc and my Meyer 6M mpc. very nicely. I’ve been waiting on for someone to produce a pragmatic, functional, and elegant ligature for what seems like forever. Thank you, Jay and to Sweetwater for making it happen. No gimmicks, no fuss…just a beautifully crafted ligature that works as it should. Brava !!!

It’s a very classically designed ligature. It holds the reed very securely in place, possibly because it’s fixed with two screws. It feels good: I’d hesitate to use the word “sound,” but to the musician, it responds well and sounds accordingly. I use it with a Meyer and a Claude Lakey reed, and both work very well.

The ligature is carefully designed, very sturdy, and well-made, and also nicely gold-plated. I use it on a Jody Jazz HR*8* and a D’Addario Select Jazz D9M, where it fits perfectly. The sturdy pressure plates on the underside are designed with curves so that they only make contact with the reed at two points each (four in total). All other parts of the reed can vibrate freely. This results in very little damping. Potential dynamics and tonal brilliance are high. The two sturdy screws allow for individual pressure on the reed, which can be adjusted to suit the desired sound and response (a very positive feature). The ligature sits firmly and without slipping and is easy to tighten. The small rubber cap for covering the reed tip is functional.

I found the BetterSax Burnin’ ligature maintained its shape over other two screw ligatures that would bend very easily. It was easy to take on and off and adjust my reed position... I felt the BetterSax Burnin’ ligature allowed the reed to vibrate evenly across the low, middle, and into the palm keys. My sound felt even and clear with more clarity than edge. I found it was easy to project with the Burnin’ ligature versus other ligatures that may dampen the sound... I preferred the BetterSax Burnin’ ligature to my Bonade and Rico H for overall response, fit, and adjustment. With Jay’s goal to design and produce a high quality two screw ligature at a price point that many players could afford, I believe he accomplished this. If you want a reasonably priced, high quality modern two screw ligature, I highly recommend you try the BetterSax Burnin’ ligature.
