Common Mouthpiece Mistakes to Avoid
Leaving in Direct Sunlight
Exposure to sunlight will oxidize hard rubber. Sulfuric acid will begin to leech as result of the oxidation, causing discoloration, along with a bad odor & taste.
Running Under Hot Water
Do not use hot water or even warm water on hard rubber mouthpieces. If you need to clean them, use cold water only, or you run the risk of discoloration and a terrible taste.
Not Swabbing After Use
Not swabbing your mouthpiece will result in deposits of gunk that hardens over time & is difficult to remove. It's not only unhygienic but it can also alter how the mouthpiece plays by adding material to the interior.
Leaving Your Mouthpiece on the Neck After Playing
This means that not only has it not been swabbed, but the moisture is going to sit on the neck cork which over time will result in the cork becoming brittle. It will also cause the cork to compress which will result in a less optimal fit.
Forcing a Tight-Fitting Mouthpiece on Attached Neck
The neck tenon is a weak point, & we want to avoid putting any unnecessary pressure on it. The neck itself can also be prone to bending, so if you have a tight-fitting mouthpiece, always put it on the neck first before attaching the neck to the body.

Which Ligatures Fit my Burnin' Mouthpiece?
Ligatures that fit standard Meyer, Vandoren, JodyJazz and equivalent hard rubber mouthpieces will fit the Burnin’.
Due to its slimmer profile, tenor HR ligatures are best suited for the Burnin’ baritone.
This is a list of ligatures confirmed to fit: Standard ligatures for HR tenor, BetterSax Burnin’ and Session for HR Tenor, D’addario H ligature for HR tenor, Rovner & Rovner Versa X for HR tenor, Francois Louis for HR tenor, BG Duo for HR tenor, Silverstein for HR tenor, JodyJazz Power Ring HRT1, Boston Sax Shop Superlative ligature for HR tenor, Yanagisawa Sixs & Yany ligatures for HR tenor, Ishimori ligatures for HR tenor
* the Vandoren M|O hard rubber tenor ligature is not a great fit for the Burnin’ baritone mouthpiece due to its fitted saddle.
