My friend Michael Ghegan came by the studio the other day. Besides being an all around incredible multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, arranger and producer… He is an authority on playing the saxophone in a pop music setting, having toured with Elton John, Aerosmith, Jamiroquai, the Allman Brothers, and currently Supertramp.
Today he’s going to share with us his tips on how to effectively accompany singers as a saxophone player and lots more.
In a matter of minutes Michael Ghegan put together the backing track we are going to use to demonstrate.
I’m going to play the melody to Roxanne, as though I were the singer, and Michael is going to improvise his accompaniment on the soprano saxophone.
There is so much good stuff in this one that you’re really going to want to watch the whole thing.

Where are the closeup pictures of Michael’s soprano mouthpiece? I’ve refaced a lot of soprano pieces that are out there. Would love a closeup picture to see if I recognize it.
